FROM DAZE TO PRAISE

The Christmas pies are finally baked
a zillion cookies stashed away,
gumdrops baked into pretty cakes
preparation for the Holidays.

The jobs undone are buzzing round
they play havoc in my head,
the gifts unbought, down in the town
for Sue, for John, for Fred.

Many cards are sent and money spent
for the yearly festive season,
Christmases often came and went
not knowing Jesus was the reason.

Take the time when day is through
to gaze into His humble manger,
and contemplate His love so true
don’t be to Him a stranger.

His message is the same, it hasn’t changed
so let us fill our days,
not with frenzies so deranged
and turn from daze to praise.

Bethlehem Town

His face it shone with love alight,
a beacon on that holy night.
It turned His simple place of birth,
into a shrine of love upon the earth.

No royal robes, no eider down,
just a poor little stable in Bethlehem Town.
His cries softened by the sweet voice of Mary,
the angels rejoicing, to the hills did carry.

Good news to the shepherds and to all who would hear,
that the Saviour was born, oh be of good cheer.
A star in the heavens was shining so bright,
guiding three wise men to this holy site.

One look at the child and every man thrilled,
they saw that the prophesy had been fulfilled.
They returned to their homelands, their hearts joyful and light,
and told of the Saviour who was born on that night.

From that day to this when this story is told,
all the peace and the joy once again do unfold.
For rich men, for poor men, His message does bring,
love and hope for all sinners, our Lord, King of Kings.
