RIVER OF SORROW

There is a river of sadness
that meanders through my heart,
its flow is sometimes gentle
then on a rampage it departs.

The eddies tug and drag me down
with sorrows I am sated,
the pains and hurts of life absorbed
that make my heart so weighted.

My river of sadness has a twin
it flows through the heart of Jesus,
as He watches all His children
do the things He so displeases.

In fear and desperation
I call out to my Saviour,
He asks me just to trust in Him
and for my faith to never waver.

Jesus in all His mercy
extends His hands out o’er the torrent,
He cries out to the Father
who calms all of my life’s torment.

The river then becomes a trickle
and I get down on my knees,
to thank the Calmer of my storm
who puts my heart at ease.

FOLLOWERS OF JESUS

We hear Your call Lord Jesus
every moment of each day,
to say ‘yes’ to all the things You ask
and not forget to pray.

To watch out for all Your children
to lend a helping hand,
to dry a tear, and give a smile
spread love o’er all the land.

Your love is at our centre
as we all meet once a week,
to share, and sing and praise You Lord
to be one with you we seek.

We are followers of Jesus
drawn like moths unto a flame,
like filings to a magnet
ever to praise Your Holy Name.

HELPING HANDS

Holy God of power and might
guide us in our daily flight,
from here and there, and to and fro
keep us ever in-the-know,
of how to treat our fellow man
to do for him all that we can,
erase a frown, and soothe a hurt
wipe a tear, and quench a thirst.
To be for all their daily bread
on a loved ones heart, help us never tread.
May our hearts and hands forever fuse
to His, and for eternity use,
each member of our being to heal
God’s family with true love and zeal.

THE BIRTH OF THE LIGHT

A virgin said yes many years ago
her heart was pure as the driven snow,
yes to the Father from up on high
who said that a Saviour, soon would be nigh.

In an instant she was a mother-to-be
the greatest mother in history,
in her womb she held the purest creation
who would be the Redeemer of every nation.

The child within her grew healthy and strong
she sang to Him many a gentle song,
she wove for Him His earthly dress
to have everything in readiness.

Joseph, he built this love child His cradle
whose head would lay down, with hair soft as sable,
but then one night they had to flee
to Bethlehem, and fulfill the prophesy.

So in a stable in the dark of night
with all the stars shining heavenly light,
the virgin gave birth, and the angels’ did sing
the Light was born, who is Christ the King.

SPIRIT FILLED

Sometimes I feel so full of love
that I think that I will burst,
the more I know my Saviour
the more for Him I thirst.

It sets my every fibre humming
my heart swells and beats so fast,
I’ll do all that’s in my power
to make these feelings last.

Holy Spirit give me the help
that I will need each day,
to ward off Satan’s evil grip
and keep all sin at bay.

I long to be Your perfect spouse
as pure as a little child,
to be worthy of Your heavenly home
to be tender, meek and mild.

THE LIVING WELL

Your Heart oh Blessed Jesus
is the well for all who thirst,
for inner peace and love and joy
for those who search and search.

They look for help in bottles
in needles, books and pills,
these are the guiles of Satan
who can only make them ill.

For after they come down to earth
from these castles in the air,
the pain and dreadful emptiness
they find are all still there.

So dip your cup into the well
that is always overflowing,
then the desert of your heart
will be full of life and growing.

YOUR GUIDING HAND

Clothe us with Your Mantle Lord
let Your smile be our sunshine,
whisper gentle words of love
ever so tender and kind.

Caress us as You did the children
when You walked upon the earth,
You always had the time for them
in their tears and in their mirth.

When we stumble and forget
to pray to You each day,
give us each a needed nudge
to the path that is Your way.

We are only human Lord
imperfect in our deeds,
Your ears are ever listening
to all our earthly needs.

So we ask You, don’t forget
as we all tend to do,
Your love is all that’s needed
to keep us fresh as morning dew.

I WANT TO SHARE

I want to share the beauty,
that my eyes do ever see,
in the glory of Your face
You have revealed to me.

I want to share the music,
that I hear in Your sweet voice.
A song that’s there for everyone,
if we but make the choice.

I want to share Your gentle touch,
when I receive You in my soul,
You caress me, gentle Jesus,
and then do I feel whole.

I want to share the peace, the joy,
the mercy that I feel,
as I walk along each day,
it’s too much to be concealed.

For these are all His gifts of love,
they are beyond compare,
they only grow in intensity,
they are truly meant to share.

THE LIVING VINE

He is the vine, we are the branches
His love is the root of all,
let us drink it in this sap of life
so we can grow straight and tall.

To Jesus who did open
the gates of heaven by His death,
He suffered, oh so very much
our sins He took in with each breath.

Just think how great His love was
to accept all pain and grief,
for people past and present
and those to come with no relief.

So let us drink in all the wine
that is given to each shoot,
of the living vine of God
and forever bear good fruit.

THE GIFTS

Jesus is the vessel
that holds all the things we need,
we only have to ask for them
and He will hear our plea.

He only asks us all to love
Him first, and then our neighbour,
His Holy Spirit will send the fruits
that we all long to savour.

We coat our lives with evil
earthly cares and so much sin,
that the gifts, of the Son of God
can no longer enter in.

We need only ask forgiveness
it’s there always for the taking,
to make amends, to give Him love
we will never be forsaken.

We go around in circles
looking for the gift of love,
but we look in the wrong places
we need a gentle shove.

We must unlock our frozen hearts
all the darkness to release,
so we, His beloved children
receive mercy, joy and peace.

Then we can be God’s candles
that burn brighter every day,
beacons for our loved ones
to guide them on their way.

THE AUTUMN JEWELS

There was a time in days gone by
their knowledge was much used,
they were the heart of the family
but today they are abused.

They gave so much for many years
worked hard, and did without,
to clothe and feed their young ones
with illness, they, fought many a bout.

They did their duty to their God
many a happy time was had,
they looked out for their neighbour
in good times and in bad.

Their children left them one by one
which is all right and good,
they spread their wings and flew away
as all good children should.

The days kept passing faster
their bones did start to creek,
but there were still a few good times
when family visited once a week.

Now their eyes are dim and barely see
their ears hear less and less,
their limbs are getting shaky
their bodies need more rest.

But when you get to the heart of it
it seems very plain to me,
it’s OUR eyes that have dimmed, OUR ears that don’t hear
OUR love that has gotten shaky.

These jewels they are still shining
their usefulness not past,
they can help us with their courage and love
their knowledge of life’s unsurpassed.

THE PATIENT FATHER

Your patience Lord astounds me
oh how long You have been waiting,
for mankind to have trust in You
with their hearts so sore and aching.

Our lives full of material things
we take no time to praise,
You, my Lord and Saviour
the giver of our days.

In all the churches of the world
You wait with arms outstretched,
a patient, loving Father
but we're not ready yet.

We created Your wounds with our lack of love
oh why can we not see,
that to put our lives into Your hands
only then will we be free.

The pain and suffering in our world
reaching terrible proportions,
our vision of the true way blocked
by Satan, master of distortion.

In my soul of souls I hear Your plea
My little children come to Me,
please help us Lord to heed Your call
there's love and mercy enough for all.

THE FLICKERING LIGHT

No matter how it happens
through love or accident,
His Love lights up and starts to grow
on life, it’s bound and bent.

It feels so safe and cuddled
in the cup of God’s own hand,
its earthly abode uncertain
because of the ignorance of man.

It knows not of the hatred
of the darkness or the sin,
its light is pure and oh so bright
life shines still from within.

But then one day there comes a change
it senses fear and tension,
its little mind can’t comprehend
horror, too terrible to mention.

The little light starts flickering
in the breeze of things to come,
the light of God is all it has
from its vessel it has none.

From the hatred of the world
instruments of death invade,
the little life is cruelly snuffed
never to see the light of day.

Oh mankind, when will you stop the hate
when will the blindness cease to be,
let these little lights shine on
oh people..........let them BE.

THE BLOOMING

In nature first there is the seed
and then comes sun and shower,
on earth’s good things it slowly feeds
then comes the bud and flower.

In my soul there was a seed
that from my conception,
started to grow so very slow
reaching for perfection.

It soon became a little sprout
at a slow and steady pace,
in time it would grow larger
with His love and with His grace.

When I was six my first communion
brought His light to shine in me,
then the miracle of the bud
was there for all to see.

And with my confirmation
when I could read and write,
I started more to understand
His power and His might.

In my teens the earthly things
took over one by one,
they formed a dark and troubled cloud
blocking out the Son.

But His gifts they kept on flowing
as steady as the rain,
He never did forget me
He loved me just the same.

When I was much older
it seemed something was lacking,
then The Word came shining through
in my faith I had been slacking.

I started then to listen
I started then to see,
I asked the Holy Spirit
to enter in, to feed me.

And now I have commenced to bloom
my face turned to the Son,
His breath, the wind that moves me
one with Him I have become.

MY SENSES

Oh the love it overwhelms me
it fills me to the brim,
and all I have to do is think
of all that comes from Him.

With each sense that was given me
I will always give Him praise,
the essence of my Saviour
has got me in a daze.

To see in every being
black, yellow, red or white,
the loving face of Jesus
it’s such a wondrous sight.

And the fruits of this good earth
so delicious to the taste,
but to the table of the Lord
we must quickly go in haste.

I sit in quietude and wait
to hear His precious call,
He speaks to me of love and mercy
and helps me not to fall.

To touch my neighbour, when in his need
he humbly comes to me,
Is to touch the hand of God
for all eternity.

THE INVITATION

Come, come, come to the table
all of you, both sick and able,
eat of His body
drink of His blood,
and true life will come
like a miraculous flood.
It will fill you up to overflowing
and your countenance will be ever glowing.
Oh why is there such hesitation
when such a feast is His presentation.
Come, come and see
if you only would,
come and taste that the Lord is good.

YOUR WILL BE DONE

May Your Holy Will be done
make us all become as one,
give to us a brand new birth
so to praise You on the earth.

Fill our hearts and fill our souls
with Your wonders ever mould,
our love to Yours forevermore
show us what You have in store.

For all who follow where You lead
Oh dearest Lord, we ever plead,
keep Your eyes upon each creature
help us to keep You, the main feature.

In this cinema of life
full of worldly cares and strife,
teach us that each cross we bear
will lead us to celestial stairs.

Where You wait with radiance glowing
oh the pleasure to be knowing,
that for now and evermore
we’ll be nestled in Your tender core.

THE WONDER

It is here, it is there
it is always everywhere.
It’s in each of us
His greatest creation,
from the least to the greatest nation,
the Wonder of His Love.

A blade of grass, a rosy flower,
we sit and ponder by the hour.
The birds that fly, the honey bee,
oh how often do we see,
the Wonder of His Love.

Whenever I do stop and gaze,
there’s every reason to give Him praise.
It is here, it is there,
it is always everywhere.
In the soft, soft cooing of a dove,
the Wonder, Wonder, of His Love.

THE KEEPER OF THE LIGHT

It all began I do perceive
when each of us were in love conceived,
from a tiny seed it commenced to grow
and as the years did come and go,
it fell like gentle summer rain
absorbed in our souls, our hearts and brains.
It shone within, it shone without
at certain times there was no doubt.
It was given when four times in white
it came in greater wondrous light.
The days do come, the days do go
of this precious gift I surely know,
that as I breathe that long last sigh
the giver of the gift will cut the tie,
and for all eternity, with all my might
I will praise the Keeper of the light.
