TAKE UP THE CROSS

Every morning as we wake
upon our shoulders we must take,
The Cross that Jesus’ body bore
following in His footsteps evermore.

Sometimes it weighs down without cease
as we walk along life’s busy streets,
struggling to keep on an even keel
temptations nipping at our heels.

They follow oh so close behind
evil spirits of the flesh and mind,
waiting for unguarded moments
our dark sides they unceasingly foment.

We fall and lose sight of the Son
blinded by the scales of the evil one,
get up, and do not be afraid
the price of your sins, on the Cross I paid.

Refresh your souls in the healing stream
of the Saviour who, for all time redeemed,
no matter what life our way does toss
each morning anew, Take Up The Cross.
